upgrade this computer

a friend needs to get some better frame rates / gaming performance out of this machine. budget is very low so he needs recommendations on a mid price gaming card. also post any else you can think of.

ATI Radeon HD 2400 Series, 256MB
NVIDIA nForce 520 LE motherboard
vista home premium (32bit i think).

Depending on his budget and what games he plays:

Very stingy:

Athlon 64 X2 6000 (Windsor) $75 or Athlon 64 X2 5200 $56. No motherboard upgrading.

Graphics card: 4770 or 4850 would be good, 9600GT might not be that bad as well.

New RAM don't hurt if he has some extra.

This is not an overhaul type upgrade, but should be enough if he plays COD4, BF2 or BF2142.

If he is on a budget a video card upgrade is all he needs. I'd go with a 9800GTX or maybe a GTX260. Anything beyond that may be bottlenecked by the processor.
