im getting fed up with my current computer, so im just going to start from the beginning again and rebuild. I was just also doing some research on intel's next release of cpus, the i5 und the westmere due for late 09 according to
So basically, I'm just wondering if I should hold on and wait or not? It also said the next cpus will be compatiable with the X58 mobo so maybe I can buy the weakest i7 n wait for the release of the westmere.. But I'm wondering if I'm going to get everything out of the westmere using an X58 mobo vs a new mobo designed for it.
My only real interest about the westmere is the integrated gfx, will that rlly speed things up you guys think?
Also, I heard someone say that when they have multiple 150gb raptop HDD set up in raid 0/1 or w/e it is that they had instant load times on bf2 (something I play all the time) and was wondering if I should go like that or just go big and get 2-3 1TB HDD (Itunes/WMA music libarys n upgrade that shlt to 320KBs)
And I also want to use 2 or 3 OS on this new rig, hence 2-3 TB hds. was thinking one per OS or raid I dont know. Would be XP Pro + Win 7 + ubuntu
ok rig:
Changing Mobo to a slightly better Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P Socket - $$270 - $ 20 = $ 250
Sound Card: Creative - unsure which to buy though
Ram:G.Skill: 1600mhz 6gb (3x2gb) 8-8-8-21 - $$ 120
GPU: MSI 4890 - $$ 250 - $15 = $ 235
DVD drive: LG sata 22x dvd - $$ 33 x 2 = $66
HD changed to WD black 1tb - $$106
CPU : 920 i7 - $$ 345 - $ 10 = $ 335
Case changed to Antec 900 II (dust filters!) $$ 140
psu: Cosair 620w HX series (modular) - $$ 176 - $34 rebate = $ 142
Just some end notes -
do you guys think I should go for a more expensive mobo with 6x ram slots vs this one that i have selected with only 4x?
should I buy a cooling fan for the cpu or go with the intel stock cooling fan
Im still debating on getting the bluray drive - is it still too early to start switching over from dvd?
i think thats it, need to bust out a calc to sum it all up
Total: 1442
x 1.13 tax

= $ 1629.46
Rebates (mail) - $ 69
= $ 1560.46
thats with one HD for now.
