Mates PC keeps dying! need some assisstance.

    Hello everyone,

Just recently my friends PC starts to freeze and he is forced to reboot or the PC will force reboot itself.

Today we were playing Killing Floor together and his comp died and rebooted.

    His specs are as follows:

CPU - E8400 on stock with intel cooler

GPU - Nvidia 9800GTX on Stock

    PSU - Hiper 580W

    Case - http://www.bossecomputers.com/Produc...LAXY%20III.htm

RAM - 2GB Gskill on Stock

The computer is situated on the floor which is also carpeted, and side fan is a tad dusty i think it might be a heating problem please advise guys and if you need any other info please post and i will reply asap. Thanks.

Check idle and load temps. Post results.

    Use prime95 for load.

If he isn't overcloking, then the most likely cause is airflow obstruction. Otherwise, the motherboard might be dying. If that's the case, try bake it in the oven.

Or, really, don't listen to him. I know, i've seen the links, but an RMA often works out better in the end.

Could be a whole number of things, both hardware and software bound.

You don't really think he'll take that joke seriously, do you?

Or, will he really take that seriously?

Okay temps are fine, so i am leaning towards a motherboard failure i am guessing as suggested that the mobo is failing.

BTW his motherboard is an MSI P35, if however that is the main cause would there be a way of saving it or would he have to result in buying a new one?

I would test the PSU first. Try powering your system using his PSU for a while. If your PC starts dying, then it's probably his PSU.

PSUs, even the cheap ones, are usually very solid. It doesn't hurt to check whether the PSU is normal or not, and it indeed is worth doing so. Since the guy isn't overclocking or overloading hie PSU, I assume that it is fine. However, my bet is with the motherboard. MSI made a crap P35 motherboard called P35 Neo-F. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...MSI-_-13130095

Last time I used $50 MSI board and it survives only a year. I admit that I abuse the board just for fun, but a crap is a crap. MSI makes some good motherboards, but they also crank out cheap crapboards as well.

If it's P35 Platinum, maybe it is worth RMA. If the board is the crapboard mentioned above, get a new one then call Microsoft Activation Hotline after you have tested the PSU (and perhaps the RAM as well).

Actually Avalanch, most reoccurring PC issues are either related to Memory or the PSU.

Got to agree with HIV, cheap PSU's are not rock solid, especially if you are pushing them anywhere near their stated output.

A huge amount of issues stem from poor quality or or low end power supplies.

You guys are right. After doing a little search on this model from Hiper brand (a UK brand which I have never heard of), it sounds very likely that it's the PSU.

I also start to doubt that there is a pandemic of low quality PSU in UK.
