          Doesn't 2142 run widescreen natively?

Arrggghhhh!!!! Big screen gaming. I'm so envy........

BTW, field, if you insist to run everything on a table, than 21" is probably the upper limit. However, you should give 26" a chance by putting it at least 5 feet away from your face while playing. Screens that big is usually for programmers, photoshoppers, movie makers, publishers, 3D modelers, CAD users, Weather channel employees, ATC controllers etc. "Medium size" screens (24-37") aren't very practical for gaming. You either go with "normal" (17-21") or go big (42-52"). The former is for table top, and latter is for living room. The problem with PC gaming is that it is heavily mouse/keyboard intensive, and game controllers simply don't cut it as smoothly. Anyway, I found that a TV table sold on some TV commercial for $19.99 might be useful for you.

I would say 24" is the upper boundary of what one might consider "normal". That's about the 1920x1080/1920x1200 limit and quite frequently used (especially by myself :))

I use a 23" myself, and it's nice having that field of view. I stuck with a 20.1", 1600x1200 monitor for a long time when a lot of games I played didn't have native widescreen, now that most of the games I like understand 1920x1080 as an option, I can't imagine going back. I don't think having it across the room would be comfortable, though. Right now it's about an arm's length away.

I got a 24" Dell and you can fit omgwtfbbqpwn amounts of code on the screen at 6pt font. Ooooh the java.
