I like Avast, but it's not necessarily very light...

Run the AVG removal tool, else you could see issues; http://www.avg.com/download-tools

          Remove AVG
Reboot into safe mode, run the tool
Boot into Windows, run avast! setup, enjoy.

avast here as well, I also convinced my parents and bro to switch to it, one is running a crappy really old HP computer and its runs flawlessly on there, and my bro is running a crappy workbook and its light on the RAM on there as well

I love seeing all the other people here running Avast.

I run Avast Professional on all my systems. Fantastic antivirus. And very light on resources. Ran 100% fine on my mothers old system (before I built her new one for mothersday).

                Her old system:
                700mhz Athlon
                256MB RAM
                13GB Harddisk
                Geforce 2 Ti
                Windows XP Home

No slowdowns after install and ran just fine up until the new build. Noticed big slowdowns with most other anti-virus's, avast is king!

AVG is still the most popular anti virus

edit : try yahoo antispy toolbar it finds lots of nasties

i use spybot, advanced windows care,ad-aware and super anti spyware,CC cleaner and windows defender

my brother's college wouldn't let him connect to the internet until he installed a better anti-virus than Avast...like AVG...

I personally think all Anti-virus software is a waste of resources and don't use any anti-virus software on my Windows PC, but if you're going to use one I'd go for Avast. High detection rate and moderately acceptable resource usage, though I did find when I tried it on an old XP machine it added a considerable amount of time to the startup process.

Sounds like a pretty silly college, if you ask me.

With all these damn iFrames going around, it's silly not to run one. I have been on perfectly legit sites (hell, even TGN) where they have an infected image only for Avast to pick it up and abort connection.

We all know what happens when you think you know what's best Abj (hint, hint watercooling! )

....Yet for some reason I am yet to get a virus infection from iFrames, and I do scan with non-realtime virus scanners. Is it because I have my permissions configured properly, or because I use UAC? I'm not sure, but whatever the reason, I haven't been having issues with it.
