80mm Fan & Cooler Choices

So in the endless pursuit to find the best fans to replace my noisy and dying cooling combo of a 110CFM@37dBa fan, 3 Antec TriCools, the fans inside my power supply, and my stock GPU/CPU HSFs, I come to TGN seeking advice and opinions.

Here are my choices so far. I'm currently running a E6600 & 8800GT inside an Antec P182. Keep in mind various upgrade possibilities and reasonable price constraints. (ie: not spending 25 dollars on one fan) My upgrade path hopefully will consist of an i7 and a 200 series Nvidia card. (CUDA > whatever unimportant thing AMD has) If budget constraints disallow the 200 series, then a 48xx card.

120mm TriCool Replacements: 2x $8.99 Scythe SY1225SL12M - 30CFM@21dBA
Stock Intel HS/F Replacement: $39.99 Scythe Ninja Mini (small size is necessary for this component)
Stock BFG HS/F Replacement: $25.99 Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 rev2
(Possible PSU 80mm Fan Swap: 2x $10.95 Nexus SP802512L-03)

Any thoughts or suggestions for this collection of new cooling supplies?

Firstly, I don't think it's necessary to change your case fans. The tri-cools are already very good.

As for the CPU cooler, why are you limited by space? There are a lot better coolers out there at the moment.

The GPU cooler is a good choice, but without a 120mm fan (low RPM), it can be fairly ineffective on new cards. Some even overheat in passive mode.

About the Tri-Cools, they're starting to be at the end of their functioning lives. One already broke down on Monday because the fan portion literally broke off of the motor. It was pretty much sitting there just because of magnetism. Secondly, I'm going for an ambient-noise level of silence because this machine is on for maybe 16 hours each day. Think of me as one of those SPCR noise-obsessed users.

As for the CPU cooler, I'd like to open my case once in a while and not say, "Dear god that's huge; I might cut myself on that IMMENSELY LARGE AND OBNOXIOUS LOOKING STACK OF HEATSINKS." I'm fully aware of the advantages in something as large as the Ninja or a S1283 and the disadvantage of it being so heavy that you need to stick a backplate on the thing. It's a personal decision, so the size restriction is my own choice.

The Accelero will have a steady flow of semi-cold air coming to it from a simple cycle of air being sucked from the front-middle and blown to the back-top, along with being right next to empty PCI slots.

The accelero needs lots of airflow. It will not work well passive!

I've been around OCN long enough to know that!

I take it that you're referring to an S1 strapped to a 4870 with a need for 120/92mm fans cable-tied on, as seen in this OcUK thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=17904825

As you well know, the heat of a 4870 >>> 8800GT. These are completely different cards with a huge performance gap in between them. I am seeing some issues of the piss poor cooling performance of the RAM heatsinks, though; I'll have to research a bit more about this issue.

I totally disagree with tricools being very good, they are average at best. They either make loads of noise or move very little air.

Scythe are good but i would pay the extra $5 and get the S-Flex personally

Mini Ninja - Still a good cooler but as mentioned above it has been shadowed by tthe xigmatek ones. As for ugradability; im not so sure this will offer much of that, if you want upgradeable you need a backblate cooler.
If you go for it anyway make sure the clearance is good enough for your ram, i know a few people who have bought then but not been able to mount them due to ram sinks

Similaly to the Mini ninja that GFX card cooler wont offer much in upgradability and i agree with Alex, its not going to perform too well in passive, even with the P182 + 8800GT. Get a slow (800-1200RPM) 92 or 120mm fan on there, should make next to no noise.

I think those Nexus ones are very similar to the sharkoon golfballs (same motor) which are very solid fans for the price, be careful though if the fans you get done move enough air through your PSU you might lose everything!
