    Upgrade?

Yeah so I play Battlefield 2142, and I've noticed that my hitreg is insanely bad. But some people get extremely good reg. I thought that this problem would be fixed when I upgraded to a much faster internet, but still it is terrible. I can shoot at someone with the crosshair perfectly on them, and let a whole clip go with only maybe 20% actually hitting. I really have no idea what would cause this. I have been talking to a few people and someone suggested that I upgrade my CPU. Right now my processor looks like this: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
This guy suggested that I upgrade to an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor which is what he has, and he has good reg... the rest of my computer looks something like this
    Memory: 4094MB RAM
    Hard Drive: 104 GB
    Video Card:
    NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT
    Motherboard: ASUS P5QC

Basically, what im asking is, what would be the main piece of computer equipment that I would upgrade to improve gameplay. I get 80-90 fps and it runs smoothly, its just that my reg is unbelievably bad, and I know there has to be a way to fix it.

    Re: Upgrade?

An upgrade sounds like a waste of money to me
I was able to play BF2142 on a much worse PC.

If you have consistently high framerates then it seems unlikely that the problem is your PC.
My guess is that you either have lag because of high ping, or that you just cant hit. Going full auto in BF2142 is usually a bad idea

Nah, that would be a total waste of money. That PC is more than enough for 2142, I think it's just a network issue.

        Re: Upgrade?

Vreki I assure you the shot is perfect, its just something else is messing it up. I kinda figured it was some kind of network issue... though I read this somewhere, any response to what this guy says?
"It will own the q8200. e8500 has more cache and higher clock speed. So you would get better performance out of it because most games aren't optimized for 4 cores right now, and secondly, the q8200 is the lowest end quad core that intel makes, so its not that good for gaming, good for office work and multi-tasking though. The e8500 will overclock much higher than the q8200 would."

These points are true, but above 2.2GHz the vast majority of modern games, BF2142 among them are GPU bound, so it makes no difference.

            Re: Upgrade?

It would make close to no difference to upgrade, unless it's your network card acting up.

But most likely it's your ISP. You may have fast internet, but it doesn't have to be stable with zero choke for that.

              Re: Upgrade?

Who ever told you to upgrade the processor was talking rubbish.

One thing to do would be to go through your processes and shut down any uneccesary ones.
I always shut down messenger, windows sidebar, and all that rubbish when i play.

But i have to admit, some days i get amazing reg, others its pap!

                Re: Upgrade?

'Upgrading' from a Q8200 to a E8500 is a complete waste of money. Your current system should be able to max out 2142 easily.

I have no idea what's causing your network problems though.

What is your internet connection and how is your PC connecting to it?

You have any problems in any other games?

                    Re: Upgrade?

Even if you upgraded to the best Core i7 (hypothetically speaking), your performance would probably stay the same due to your graphics card being the bottleneck of your rig. I'm not suggesting to upgrade your graphics card because that is not needed....im just proving a point.

Also, have you ever personally watched this guy play? It could be his actual BF2142 skill that's helping him get kills.

Upgrade not needed you can play 2142 with a P4 and an 8500GT, definitely internet/network issues. Probably googling the problem will give you better results.

yeah BF2142 worked fine on my old opteron 939 with a x1950 pro so its definately not your PC. It always was a buggy game though, is it with both titan and conquest or just titan?

assuming all other things are equal are you guys srsly saying that someone using a opteron 939 is going to have the same hit registry on a 32 player server as someone running 4Ghz on a C2X QX9775??

i would definitely think here when you are looking into the fine details of being able to flawlessly shoot and kill enemies in bf2142 your hardware is going to make a difference and that there is improvement to be had going from a q8200 to something slightly higher end
