One of the sticks in my dual channel memory kit failed. Can I keep one stick to run my computer while the other stick is repaired/replaced or should I send both back so the company will send me back a "matched" pair? Is there a loss in speed if its not a "matched" pair?

I wouldn't advise running a non-matched pair, but there is no harm in running only one stick.
Try and keep them together, as the company may send you a different type back which would be annoying. -

There is no reason not to use an un-matched pair of memory, unless the sticks won't work together in dual channel mode. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't.Comment

Most motherboards aint too picky about matched pairs, i have managed to get two completely different sticks of PC6400 ram to run in dual channel mode before (when i say i have managed i mean they just did :p) Apparently i7 is a little bit more picky.
I agree with alex though, i would try and keep them together.Comment

Best to use the same make and model of memory in Dual Channel (or Triple for that matter) but at the very least, make sure they are the same speed with the same timings, otherwise you may encounter problems.
As far as a single stick is concerned, it'll be fine.Comment
