yeah it loads quicker if I was just on that server, or if I had just finished playing that map

I load into all BF2 servers in around 10 seconds... I noticed a huge speed boost when I got my RAID array, so I have a feeling HDD speed has a major factor in load times.

Why X-Fire and such apps become unresponsive I cannot comment. My X-Fire ingame works just fine in BF2 loading.

Once I initially load a map in a game like bf2 or tf2 I usually load 2 or 3 times faster than normal on any map after that whether it's on the same server or not.

yeah same. like if I play on a BF2 server that has 1 round per map the initial load is kinda long but after the round is over and a new map loads I get in almost instantly and get any vehicle I choose
