New card, Laptop BSOD, Firefox failing on me

    Hello guys,

Well i novatech has emailed me with their special offers and this one grabbed my eye:

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?NOV-GTX260

Its a good deal 130 quid only as well as if i add a Hiper 580W PSu it should work right?

I created a thread awhile back asking for a gpu/psu combo and thought i might change for financial reasons and get a lower priced gpu (hence the one above) and get a higher quality psu.

Second i seem to be having some firefox random crashes i dont know why my version is 3.8.

As well as my laptop gives me random BSODS at times second time happened today, first time was a week ago.

Didnt we suggest a OCZ PSU? i would recomend that over the hyper tbh.

Thats the 192 stream processor version of the 260 so if the 4870 is a few quid more i would say go for the 4870.

Doubt it, but I would give the E7300 a small OC to alleviate any small bottleneck issues.

Okay i thought again and money comes into serious thought i am more of looking into keeping my uni rig breathing for the next 2 years until i bring it back with me to Bahrain when i get my BA degree.

          So i thought of this:

          http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...e.html?XFX-250

now i know it is a re branded 98GTX but its good right? i wanted to buy a sub 200 pound card before but thought again and would like a higher quality PSU, so i have been thinking in the areas of the gpu being a GTS/X series the HDradeon is 150 quid i want slightly below that, now if i get that 260 with the 192 SP will it be really bad? as opposed to getting the 97GBP GTS250?

A lot better than the 9800 and only £5 more or something.

Alternatively, the 4830's are very, very good performance/price.

              http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s....html?XFX-4830

              What does it compare to?

Well, this is a GRID performance graph (the only game I can relate to). Seems to do well:

It beats the 9800gt outright. In some games falls behind the 9800GTX+ yet in others it pulls ahead. For £75, I don't think you can go wrong, especially with XFX!

What games are you playing btw?

Okay had a run through Novatech's PSU dept. and found these PSUs under 70 pounds which one would eb the best pic. This is for my Uni rig which is basically a

                  P31 MSI Neo board

                  E7300procs stock

2GB ram and XP pro SP3

Here they are what do you guys think? (Biscuit mate i know we decided on the OCZ but now since my budget is slightly more flexible with PSU pricing i decided to add a bigger list)

                  http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s....html?OCZ-S500

                  Oh Games i am playing:

Age of Empires 3 (and 2 but hey that works with Intel gfx lol)

                  All Company of Heroes

                  warcraft 3

                  HL2 Episode 2

                  Mafia 2 (in teh future)

Other than that buddy i cant think of any lol

Wow, PSU's have gone up in price lately :/

I would have said Corsair, but even the HX520W is near £90. Out of those, I would say the StealthXStream 500W.

                    That would power everything fine.

IMO if you want to keep it running for 2 years then dont upgrade now, keep what you have for another 8-9 months save up some cash then look to upgrade to a higher end card when DX11 starts to slip into the market.

Dont know what that meant lol

IS the 500w going to cover a GTX260 too? i am not going buy one (am set on the 4830) just for future references.

EDIT: Biscuit, that move is for my home PC the one listed in My System is my current rig setup, i intend to move as u iirc said to an I5 (instead of an I7) and a new mobo and gfx.

Fair enough. 500w would probably be fine for a 260 assuming you dont have a huge array of hard drives and USB powered devices but if its anything like my PSU then the load it takes will cause the fan to make a bit of noise, especially when gaming. Doesnt botherme too much but i do plan to grab an enermax as soon as i can afford it.

You could always rep me then go back to alex
