Would you buy prebuilt if you had the money?

I think I would. I don't particularly like assembling everything myself as it makes me nervous. Plus it would be nice to be able to blame someone when something goes wrong.

I have no problem assembling things myself but sometimes you can get some good deals with pre-builts. My dad bought a pre-built HP Compaq AMD dual-core 2.8ghz, 3GB of RAM, 500GB HDD and windows vista for about $200 from Staples and then he put in my old 8600GT and gave it to my brother which he uses as a gaming computer.

Couldn't have built that, even without the card, for $200.

Btw, when you build a PC and something goes wrong you can still blame someone... all the parts should be under a warranty with the manufacturers, and/or with the store you bought it from.

I prefer the flexibility you get with your own build, and the fact that you can feel free to tinker as the warranties are on the individual parts and don't evaporate as soon as you open the case.

Dell and HP's warranties don't cancel when you open up the case. The others, like Acer, are probably the same.

I know you can get great deals, but like Powderhound said, you can't get the flexibility, expandability or ability to overclock.

Plus, I enjoy putting good looking PC's together :)

Pre-Built all my life, and I can customize it just as much if not more than if I was to build it myself. I also have next buisness day in home service. No single part warranty is going to give you that.

Most people who have built their own always have problems. Theres always something wrong with their computers. Either something is broken or its about to break. My prebuilt has worked fine except for my graphics card giving up after a few intense years. Also I can customize my prebuilt all I want.

Acer breaks the warranty if you open the case... ********

I only have bad experiences with prebuilt... from now on I'm putting it together myself.

Really? I have a prebuilt Dell but it's pretty much all custom parts. The GPU, processor, PSU, and 2gb of RAM. The only stuff that's still stock is the case, motherboard, and 1gb of RAM. It's like a mix between prebuilt and self-built. I haven't had a single problem with this computer and I've had it for almost 2 years now.

Building them is the best part of a new build. Its great to be able to choose the exact parts instead of choosing from a very small list. Getting the exact parts you want helps to give more options when tinkering with ur comp :)

That crap *** motherboard is the main problem, most of us here enjoy overclocking our CPU's, but Dell motherboards do not allow that.

Nope, that would take all the fun out of getting the parts and putting them together. If I had the money, I'd just buy better parts. :p

For me, my self-built rigs have never had any major problems. The worst things that have happened to me was a BSOD after a Windows installation (worked the next try) and not properly seating my 8800GT, which caused my rig to not boot.

I haven't really wanted to overclock the processor. See how it doesn't matter to me?
Besides, it's an AMD 64 X2 and I wouldn't want to spend money on after-market cooling.
