Gts 250

I'm thinking of getting this at my local Frys, it's only $130 after rebate.

The 250 has a redesigned board so it uses less power, other than that, it's about the same as a 9800GTX+.The prices on Newegg for the GTS 250 and 9800GTX+ are about the same. This card is about the same price as the stock ones on Newegg.

I'm replacing my 3650 in my other rig with the 8800GT I have in this computer. The GTS 250 will go in this rig.

It's a good card. Like you said its just a rebranded 9800 GTX+. Very few and subtle differences between the two.

Reports are that you can infact SLI between the two, but it seems to be hit and miss. Some will and some wont.

Hope you enjoy the new card however. :thumbsup:

I don't have a 9800GTX anyways, so that fact doesn't concern me. The only major differences are a shorter board and lower power consumption, which requires only one 6-pin connector. Don't know about heat though.

Yes, it's still 55nm.

Does it reduce the clocks when idle like most ATI cards and the GTX series? My 8800GT is always at full speed.

Are there any other cards I should be looking into? 4850 maybe?

Im not really sure whats best performance per pound but i think the GTS is better performance per watt.

TBQH i dont think either will be that great of an upgrade from a 8800GT. Id save up that little bit extra and go for a GTX260/4870 as they have really dropped in price now.

Just pretend like I don't have a graphics card at all in this rig. Would the GTS 250 still be a good buy?

That is what I looked at with my post. You asked about the card. And it is infact a great card. The increase from an 8800GT is pretty small, but none the less good card.
