    GPU & PSU recommendation?

My video card recently formed a big crack at the top of one of those metal things (from heat, i guess) but it worked fine until now. Today the screen just went all blue, and after fiddling with my monitor controls i discovered that it can not produce any reds whatsoever. It doesnt matter if theres a solution to this, because i thought it was time for an upgrade anyway (7600 gt).

im thinking of buying a 4830, but i need a psu too. How do these look?:

If you are going to recommend something else, it must be single slot and reasonably priced. Thank you in advance!

The 'BFG GTX 285 OCX Edition' is a good GPU.. I recommend it.

Do you even read his post? That's about 3 times his budget...

The 4830 is a great budget card, however I would perhaps look into a ~500W PSU, either the HX or TX models from Corsair.

It is a reasonable price imo, but ohwells. Ok, what does your budget go up to mate?

The 450W will more than suffice for the 4830 but if you can afford it alex is right, 500-550 would be better in the long term.
I would say its a pretty ideal choice you have there.

Ok so my 7600 gt randomly corrected itself... looks like theres still some life left in it.

The higher wattage psus from corsair are much more expensive... i dont think i need much of a psu anyway, im just running one fan and all your other basic stuff. Would the 450 still be ok?

And which nvidia card would the 4830 be comparable to?

Also would my pentium d 'presler' cpu bottleneck it, or not?

A 4830 is about as powerful as a 8800/9800GT. A Pentium D would probably bottleneck it.

depends on resolution (edit) and video settings.

yea but.. i can still expect major improvements until i can upgrade the rest of my computer right?

1280x1024, high settings +/- aa on lets say.. cod4. Just something i can look at and say 'wow' compared to my 7600 gt. Which isn't much.

Yeah the 450w power supply will more more than adequate i promise you. It will bottleneck the crap out of it BUT not so much that you dont see the benefits, especially at that resolution.

Yeah, a good quality 450W will be fine. Again, like biscu1t said, it will bottleneck it, but you will see performance increases. But I would look to update the CPU sooner rather than later.

I'd go with a E5200 and a cheap P43/45 mobo if you wanted a inexpensive CPU upgrade.
