Well, my PC has been working fine for a few weeks. I was playing PR and I started to get:

"Display driver atikmdag stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

I thought nothing of it, but dialed back my rather small overclock to stock. Started playing DiRT today and had a lot more of these crashes. Some lead to my game crashing as well.

I did a full re-install of Catalyst 9.3 and even did a DriverSweep in safe mode to make sure it was fresh. Yet, it continues to crash at stock frequencies. It just happens when gaming.

What's going on ?!?!?!

I seem to remember a while ago you changed something to do with the chips voltages, lowering during idle ro something? or did i get the wrong end of the stick?

If everything is set back to stock then it sounds like RMA time

Yea, I set it all back to normal. Normal BIOS, normal speeds, normal voltages.

I played Team Fortress 2 and it just kept freezing every minute for about a second. I can't play PR anymore, it just crashes (unrelated methinks) and DiRt obviously causes a driver crash.

I hope I don't need an RMA, because according to Powercolor's website, the UK doesn't exist

I used to get this when I overclocked my 9600GT too high.

The first thing to check would be the temps, which I should hope you've already done. Following that, you could make sure your power supply is supplying the correct voltages and doesn't have too much ripple, to be thorough, but beyond that there's not much left to check.

Well, GPU core temp doesn't exceed 38c at load and memory about 60c.

I assume my PSU is providing the correct voltage, although i'm not sure how to check really without a multimeter and I don't have one.

that sounds familiar. a friend of mine had a problem with corrupt x64 drivers on vista and I think that was the same similar error.

It reports VRM voltages, i'll have a look at that later.

As for testing, it's rather hard as it means taking apart my entire loop and re-fitting the air cooler :|:

I get this on my other Vista PC which has some ATi card... on this PC (also uses Vista) which has an nVidia card, I used to get the same error but obviously with the nvidia's equivalent of the driver: nvlddmkm

I just googled for a fix and found this:

Seems like it's something to do with Vista and not the card...

I've found that software voltage monitoring programs aren't very useful. Last time I tried one, it said my 12v rail was supplying 1.4 volts of power.

yeah speedfan does that to me but everest tends to be very similar to the bios rating which is about as accurate as your gunna get without a mulitmeter.

reinstalling MS directx v. 10.x would be about the last possible software fix before a windoze reinstall (and if a driver reinstall and directx reinstall don't fix it, reinstalling windoze probably won't, either, unless you've suddenly developed a driver conflict...which is a lot like accidentally getting pregnant).

besides a borked card, the only other quick-fix hardware solution would be to check the contacts between some of the other bits (vrms/memory) and the heatsinks.

You say this, but I had a driver failure that was only fixed with a reformat.
