Does anybody cool thier RAM?

im just wondering if its worth it for most builds assuming you overclock your cpu a little bit. i was thinking of maybe getting something LIKE this that clamps on and has fans on it

i was also wondering with something like that, how many sticks of RAM is it built for? is it made to cover and cool 4 sticks of RAM? its hard to tell

Cools 4 sticks of RAM. Only really needed for overvolted RAM.

as long as you have sufficiant airflow in your case and your not going for insane overclocks, ram isnt really something which needs dedicated cooling.

It's built for Corsair Dominator RAM, which has heatsinks built in. For most RAM, if you're not overvolting, the passive cooling (and the heatspreaders that come with most sticks) will do fine.

My memory doesn't even have heatspreaders on it. Never given me trouble.

But then, DRAM isn't really something that generates a lot of heat.

Yep, heatspreaders are more than enough for most people. Whatever your RAM comes with is definitely adequate for stock speed.

theres no reason unless you overvolt them like crazy, but then youll just end up killing your RAM

its a bad case of overkill to have fans next to the ramsinks

Really no need at all. I used to have an OCZ cooler on my RAM. However I do not use it any longer. RAM coolers are tbh a waste of money. My old DDR2-6400 RAM ran fine at 900mhz 4-4-4-12 1T 2.2v even without the cooler.

That said, if you are running 4 sticks. And overclocking like that, perhaps it would make a difference making sure you have airflow between the sticks. But for stock speeds or even small-moderate overclocking, it is not needed.

i'm no fan of extra fans. more noise, very little payoff as far as ram performance. yes, it will extend the life a few more years into obsolescence...but who cares by that time...
