    Laptop

I'm getting a laptop (for free) from my cousin who just got a new one, but i was wondering if i can change the graphics card in it.

    is it possible?

    Re: Laptop

depends on the laptop but 90% of the time no not at all. The GPU chipset is usually integrated into the motherboard in some fashion in laptops.

        Re: Laptop

Yeah there is most often very little, if not nothing you can do to upgrade the GPU on most laptops.
You'd have to look into it and find out if it's an external GPU or an intergrated one..

And for the motherboard, I think you can change it, but it would have to be the same or a very similar model as the current one. It would probably be much better to get a whole new laptop than to spend the money and trouble on getting a new motherboard..
I think it would be expensive to get a new motherboard for a laptop.

Nope, what the laptop is is what the laptop will always be.

You can upgrade RAM, HDD, and probably CDRom to a DVD ROM or burner, but thats about it.

Yep, it usually is too much to upgrade and most the time its something like a 2.0 to a 2.4 or 2.6. Not worth it most the time especially with no other gain.

Anyways the laptop situation in upgrading is usually a dead end.

You can also upgrade the CPU.

My laptop has a dedicated GPU so I can upgrade that as well if I wish to.

It completely depends on the manufacturer. If you are looking at a typical Dell/Gateway/HP/etc. Laptop, then you are pretty limited. However if you have a professional Laptop, your choices are generally much broader.
