Stick with a reliable, well-know brand for PSUs - it's the one part where branding can actually make a huge difference. Corsair, Antec, and PC Power & Cooling are all good brands. These are just the ones I know, there's plenty of other good brands out there.

Try picking up a OCZ or a newer BFG (old BFG ones are crap, they've changed makers since them), they're pretty cheap in the states here, a lot cheaper than Corsair but not bad quality.

i toldf him to turn off his PC and take it out... never know what might push a cheapo PSU over the edge and take everything with it.

slapped the new PSU in... whacked Furmark on and i still get pixel blocks showing

GFX card is sat in fine.. ill take it out in a min and put it back in but i dont think that will solve it... any other ideas?

Still? I swear the PSU would fix it. Oh well, it's better that you got a quality PSU anyway.

Have you got another graphics card you can try instead or swap out your 4850 into another computer?

Its unlikely to be this but when you took the old drivers off did you run a driver cleaner program to make sure every last bit was gone?

my mate just asked same thing... and i totally didnt... im a tard sometimes.. ill clean system of all drivers and install ones for my new card only

(also, 8600gt ran perfectly fine with 2 sets of driver >_<)

where do i find a 'cleaner' programme? i removed the Nvidia Physix and display drivers from A&R but i still get pixels... so there could still be parts of old drivers on

did a format (needed to do one anyway, had Home edition installed when i needed Pro) and it seems to be okay now

Don't be annoyed that you bought a new PSU, you should always have a good quality one. A poor PSU can lead to the death of an entire PC!

oops, i got to this party late.

a really good PSU is a nice investment--the only thing that kept me from upgrading for the longest time was the added cost of upgrading from a very good 380W PSU (came with my sonata 1) to a psu that would handle an overclocked two-or-four core processor plus a modestly overclocked GPU.

generally, graphics artifacts are *not* caused by a "weak" or poor quality psu. electricity isn't tiered at the "gucci" versus "pay-less" level. even bargain basement psu's are good enough to keep components running, but they do lack IMPORTANT safety features that keep the rest of the system alive in the event of a power spike (overvoltage, pfc, protection etc.)

a good psu will keep you safe, and you can safely transplant your psu for several upgrades if you spend enough on one.

i would have suggested a reinstall of DX9.0c or 10.1 had i gotten to the party earlier. you should enjoy the peace of mind a good PSU will give you, anyway.

unfortunatly.. i return.

played CoD4 and from what iv noticed (played it for 5 hours straight) there were no pixel things to be seen.. Ran FurMark left it for bout 10 mins, noticed a set of pixel blocks once. Ran F.E.A.R for 10 secs on Inerval 1 .. mass blocks when i looked at a wall.. i got afew SS's but u cant make em out all that well due to it being dark setting but anyhow..

i formatted my PC so there shouldnt be any trace of Nvidia Display Drivers.. its... weird tbh :x

any ideas? no monies atm to buy any more hardware.. the only things that aint new in my system atm are :

Mobo
2 Sticks of my 4 Sticks of Ram
Processor

If it didn't happen with your 8600, then i'm going to make the assumption that your card is probably broke. Either that, or it is overheating.
