Went to Best Buy and Staples today to try out a few netbooks.

Acer Aspire One - Looks similar to an Eee, but the touchpad was tiny and horrible to use.
HP Mini 1030NR - Looks very sexy, small, portable...again, horrible touchpad. Having the buttons on the side sucks and my finger barely gets any travel.
Asus Eee 1000 - Looks much better than the older Eee PCs that I've seen, and the touchpad is actually decent sized! The mouse buttons are pretty damn stiff. I still like it the most out of the ones I've tried so far. However, having seen the HP Mini, it's starting to look pretty big.

Thanks again for all your responses. The NC10 is tempting with the matte screen, but the touchpad looks tiny like the others :\

The eee 100 does have a much nicer touchpad due to the increased sizwe, the buttons do seem stiff at first but after a while they become easier to use (the ones on my 901 did), i tend to tap on the touchpad instead of using the left click where i can though.

Would it be possible for me to set two-finger tap as a left click? I loathe tap-to-click because I tend to take my finger off the touchpad a lot, and then I inadvertently click when trying to move the pointer just a little bit. At that point, I get confused, end up tapping again which activates tap-and-drag, and things start flying all over the place and whatever I've been working on is now upside down in a different window somehow. It's not pretty :p

As i have installed a diferent Distro i cannot check this, but i have found a thread to make two finger tapping right click so i presume it could be used for left, The thread on eee user containing the info is:

I have found the eeeuser site very useful as it's wiki contains alot of information about how to customise the OS amongst other things.

In case you were interested, here's some info on modding for the Wind. That board also has much more info, including installing alternate OS. FYI, the keyboard is great, full-size for the most common keys, just a bit smaller for the others. I'm a big guy, and have no problem typing on it.

Got the 1000HE today. Absolutely loving it so far. Added 2gb of RAM, replaced XP with the Windows 7 beta, runs great. After some codec wrangling, it now plays 720p video effortlessly. Windows estimates a battery life of 8 hours 7 minutes with brightness at the max and wireless turned on.
