Why aren't they called GTX 265s or 270s? One point I've heard was so Nvidia could sneak out the remaining core 192/65nm stock out, but EVGA is making it obvious that they're 55nm and Newegg has seperate catagories for core 192/216.

Yeah, so if Nvidia just thought about it more before making rebrands/sharing names, it'd be a lot less confusing.

Its not a rebrand at all, its just the GTX 260 Core 216 on a 55nm process.

There are 3 stock models of the GTX 260:
GTX 260
GTX 260 Core 216 (65nm)
GTX 260 Core 216 (55nm)

I was talking about the rest of their products. 8800GS -> 9600GSO 96SP, which also shares its name with the 9600GSO 48SP.

And now we have 3 cards going under the same name with the GTX 260s. :shakehead:

Its because Nvidia is able to sell off old stock for the same price if the names remain the same

Yup, it's all about stock clearance. I suspect Nvidia overestimated sales before the market took a turn for the worse. Now they have to get rid of the things.

Because it would be false advertising to claim they are exactly the same.

Of course they're two (three) different cards, but Nvidia's original plan was to sneak the 55nm 260s in while getting rid of the 65nm first.

The shrunken manufacturing process hasnt really made any difference to power and due to a slightly adjusted heatsink the temps are pretty much the same too. Along with the same clock speeds you get from 65nm i dont really see any need to make a big deal out of it.

55nm would only really excite those who voltmod their cards.
