Dead xfi?

Hey folks,

I finally got back around to installing my xtrememusic oem (SB0460) card and have a couple of questions that i think i already know the answer to, but wanted to get a second opinion before i chuck out my silicon:

1) i've put this card in two different pci slots, and windoze xp does not recognize new hardware on boot in either slot

2) it was giving me some problems before i removed it--i.e., i'd get some voices in ventrilo really, really fast, like a vinyl (for those that remember them) at 200% speed (chipmunks) and occasionally at -200% (troll voices). and no, it was not the alcohol that caused me to hear it, lol :)

my assumption was that my drivers were fubared on that win install somewhere deep, so i reinstalled my mobo pci-e sound (everything was ok with it).

if windoze won't talk to my xfi soundcard thru the pci slot, i'm assuming that my card is really broken? if you've got some troubleshooting tips, let me know, 'cuz this thing is going in the trash soon if i can't get it at least to talk to the bridge in windoze.

things i've tried:

making sure my motherboard audio is disabled

toggling pci from OS controlled to BIOS control

and i'm working on a fresh windoze install

didn't see a setting for the pci freq, but i did set my pci-e freq to 100mhz manually (can make a diff when overclocking).

cried on it a little. (no, not really...just a shame to toss out what should be a perfectly good card...no reason for a soundcard to go bad unless you abuse it, darn it.)

If your PCI is locked to 100mhz and the card just isn't being recognised, then yes, it's probably gone to meet it's makers.

Definitely not showing in device manager?

that's the thing--in my AI tweaker, i can manually set the pci-e freq to 100mhz, but i'm not 100% positive that also sets the pci freq to 100mhz.

edit: i'm going bios surfing for a bit. maybe even read the manual (*gasp*)

If it wasn't 100mhz, the device would show, but there would be a lot of errors. It's unlikely it just wouldn't show.

It's probably time to give us a budget for a new soundcard

bah. i'm going to plug it into an off-the-shelf dell at work tomorrow and see if it's at least recognized. i'm still hoping there is a bios setting i'm missing as i go through them that will turn the **** thing on at least. it was WORKING, albeit with some errors, a couple of months ago.

if not, going to have to say goodbye to an old, loud friend.

i only use this rig for gaming, so i'll stick with the pci-e card that came with my p5e for now if my x-fi is truly dead. moving to minnesota shortly, saving my cash atm.

going to treat the terminals to a bath in 99.9% isopropyl first, just to see if anything sticks (or gums off, lol).

I suppose you could try adjusting your PCI latency... It helped me stop BSODs in BF2 on my old NF4 board.
