so whats the deal with xfire videos and windows movie maker..?

ok i've been recording with Xifre and its pretty nice and smooth compared to fraps and your able to record sound with it now for vista but
after i get done recording something, yes, i can watch it with windows media player but when i try to bring it into my video editor it is treated as an audio file when i try to drop it onto the timeline. all it plays is the audio with a black screen.

then for some reason when you look at these video files there is a main video file and then there is a screenshot of some random spot to go along with it.

could someone please tell me what i need to do with these XFire recorded video files in order to properly use them in video editor?

You may be missing a codec? That's usually why sound plays with no video...

download DIVX and that should fix it as DIVX has a **** load of codecs

X-Fire wiki on the codec.

The codec is automatically installed to Windows video codec system when Xfire is installed. The codec can also be manually installed by using the xfcodec.inf file found in Xfire's folder.

Not at my PC atm but im guessin that file has some instructions on how to manually install it.

would i be able to fix the lagging audio? it starts to get attrocious after a while lagging almost a second or 2 ahead or behind the video.

this is one thing i find very offputting about xfire video

Thats probably to do with the FPS that the editting software differing from the FPS of the Video. You need to either record at the same setting as the editting software uses or set the software to use the same as you recorded in.

You mean when you record with fraps it doesnt do that? maybe thats because you capturing at 60 with fraps and then editting at 30 which is an easy conversion. Maybe Xfire iscapturing at 50 and then your editing at 30 which is a bit more complicated and will result in errors.

Just humour me and check both the FPS setting

virtualdub has the option to adjust audio timing (under audio interleave), but it would take some trial/error to get the timing right.
