the socket AM3 chips work on AM2+ boards as they have hybrid DDR2 and DDR3 controllers built into them however the AM2+ chips dont work on the AM3 boards. I promise you this is the case.
Ok but the Phenom II 920 and 940 are not AM3 chips so they wont work on the AM3 motherboards or with DDR3 holding very little promise for future upgrading.
Saying that, they are in no way bad chips and im doubting the move to DDR3 will make much if any difference.
