Ok so i am on a budget build and i just wanted to know what u guys think...
I already have a monitor i just bought so i dont need that but i do need everything else





Also please dont tell me i should go intel and all this other stuff cause i am gonna get this processor no matter what...

That sort of attitude could end up costing you, if you give up a superior product because of brand alliance. I'm not saying that Intel has something better, but it would be wise to at least LOOK at their offerings before you pass them up.

A Corsair HX620W would be better to be honest and also a nicer case.

As for the Phenom thing, i hear that model is roughly the same performance as a stock Q6600. Intel are starting to phase them out now as they are old technology :|:

I'd probably get a TX650 or a VX550, as opposed to the modular HX units. The TX650 is a lot less expensive.

Depends. If you have a windowed case, the HX is a much better option. If you don't, or have a case with extremely good wire hiding abilities, then the TX might be worth the saving.

basic equivilent but a bit cheaper. There isnt really anything wrong with the AMD chip though.

ye thats the thing i dont want a q6600 and if i would go intel i kinda feel obligated to go to the i7 but that is way out of price range

also i started thinking about the modular PSU
would this one be ok for my system or would i be pushing it

In the end, you could save a little money going for the Q6600 option. The Phenom 2 would perform the same, but probably would not OC as far and would cost a lot more!

That PSU should be fine, however, a 620W would provide you with headroom in the future should you want to upgrade again.

Finally, you should add an aftermarket CPU cooler into that budget. Would help increase your overclock and also preserve the CPU :)

well i want something that will kinda sorta be future proof where i can upgrade later on using most of the same components (ie mobo), but with the new chipset's out by intel i would not be able to do that with q6600. but the AM3 is also compatable with the mobo i am getting... thanks for the help so far...

also alex what would be a good cooler i have never used one...

Whats your current system out of interest Andrew? Might be beneficial to wait out a couple of months for the market to settle down a bit; ddr3 is coming down in price, i5 should be with us later this year and AMD are to release high end AM3 parts in a few months.

I know its always the case that there is something new and better round the corner but if what you have now still runs the games yu want to play perfectly fine then it may be worth sticking your cash in savings letting and it gain a bit of interest.

Edit - the AMD 920 and 940 are NOT AM3 parts and therefore will not work on AM3 mobos so they dont hold the future proofing that i think your expecting with them. The AM3 parts where released today and the only black edition is the tricore version which looks ok but not great and the rest run at lower clocks than the PII AM2+ parts.

As for cooler im a bit of a thermalright fanboy, they make some really good coolers but the xigmatek ones seem to perform nearly aswell for slightly less cost with a fan included. Scythe and thermaltake also make some pretty good stuff.

Thats the thing i need to get a new PC cause my parents are gonna take all of my old one for their business and so they told me i could get a new one... also it is a peice of ****e anyways(very old) i think it is like an athlon 3200+ lol

Well from what i have read they say that the socket AM3 will fit on the AM2 and 2+ boards
