    Surveillance camera help needed.

My parents asked me to look into setting them up with a camera to watch the driveway. I've spent a couple hours tonight doing some research, but I'm still kind of lost. Right now it seems like the easiest option would be using an IP camera and an old desktop for storage. Unfortunately, I can only find cheap, horrid quality ones or $600+ ones designed for businesses that would be overkill.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. :)

Well, one thing you could do is just to buy that opaque security camera circle from somewhere, seal it so no moisture/dust will infiltrate it, bolt a webcam to the inside, then wire an immensely long USB extension cable to the computer you record onto.

Or buy one of the security cameras on Newegg and pipe a long Ethernet cable from Monoprice to the computer. Some have wireless, actually.

Or put up a mock up one if you really cant find anything cheap enough and just put it in a really obvious place.

A friend of mine went this route. He even went so far as to put a little motor on it so it "scans" back and forth. It's pretty convincing.
