    Gtx 295

    Just received mine last night. I ordered the EVGA GeForce GTX 295 1792MB Video card from here:

    Got the last one in stock. Put it in last night. They still have some of the normal EVGA GTX295's however they don't come with the backplate.

    :shock:

    Was playing Crysis Warhead at 1920x1200 "Enthusiast Settings" and 2x AA with no slowdowns or visible screen lag. Fantastic card well worth the money if you got money to spend.

      I am unsure the exact reason it helps cool, however it does work.

        thermalright have a cooler for the backsides of graphics cards which is supposed to be quite effective :)

          Yeah, but Thermalrights cooler interferes with SLI... this plate does not

            A backplate helps exert a greater pressure. Thus, the cooler sits tighter to the integrated heat shield of the actual processing chip reducing microscopic space between the two.

            That is why CPU heatsinks with a backplate are generally better.

                Also, they can help with cooling, as a lot of heat is transferred into the PCB.

                  I just had a good chance to test temps with the card.

                  Idle:
                  Core1: 48C | Core2: 49C

                  Load (3 hours Crysis Warhead):
                  Core1: 84C | Core2 82C

                  I also saw my first jitters tonight in a KPA base with a lot of action going on, big firefight... so perhaps I can do without AA. lol Even still, great card.

                          It also spreads out the pressure that's exerted on the board by heavy heatsinks. Motherboards and other PCB boards are made in layers, and it's easy to crack one of those layers and ruin your stuff if the heatsink is too heavy.
