Help I cant get my computer on!!

I was taking out a graphics card from my computer and in my haste I forgot that my computer was in sleep mode when I cut the power to it. Now when I try to start my computer a message comes up saying that it was improperly shut off and all information that was not saved will be lost, ENTER=continue, no big deal right? Wrong for some reason I can not press enter on my keyboard even though it is lit up and has power. It is a USB keyboard so I thought that that might be the issue so I got a PS/2 adapter for the keyboard and plugged it into the keyboard port, but it still does not work, and if I cant press any keys on the keyboard how do I move past that screen and start my computer up. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Try resetting your CMOS. Your mobo manual should have instructions on how to do it. If that doesn't work, I have no idea but to try another keyboard, more USB ports, stuff like that. Troubleshooting stuff like this is always a pain. Hopefully some right combination of actions will solve it.

also try using an actual ps/2 keyboard instead of a usb one through an adapter.

did you try the cmos reset?

you just pull the jumper off, replace it one peg over, and it sends everything back to default.

if your bios doesn't recognize usb devices as a default, then you could be in for a trip out to grab a usb keyboard, but that's unlikely.

take heart: you didn't fry your major components, the worst case scenario is you goofed up something in your southbridge/usb hardware.

now, go reset that cmos! :)

if the jumper is in an awkward place you can always just pull the battery out and unplug it for 5 mins. Thats what i always do cuz mines under my GfX card.

Make sure that when you took out the graphics card that you didnt unseat the other cables and such within the case. Just go around gently pushing everything in to ensure its al securely fixed.

When you boot up is that message you get a windows message or a bios message? if its a widows one not a bios one then wait till bios has just finished, hit F8 (i think) repeatedly and you should get the option of booting in safe mode.
