Hi TGN?

Just a quick question.

I have a P5LD2 SE motherboard with a Geniune 2160 @ 1.80 Ghz 1.80Ghz cpu.

I might have a chance to change my cpu into a E4500 @ 2.20 Ghz
(Yeah I know it's still not good)

The question is, before I change the Cpu do I need to install a new Bios or install any new stuff for the new CPu?

Also do i also have to apply the Grayish stuff again?

You should flash to the latest BIOS before putting a new CPU in :)

Yes, you need new thermal paste, a pea sized amount.

Hey there~ Thank you for the replies.

Ok...but what do u mean by "flashing" to the latest bios, and how do i do it? ^^

It's only been a month since i applied that thermal paste on my cpu.
I did it when i bought a new cooler.

Are thermal pastes easy to find? Or maybe expensive?

Buy Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. Will last you for a while.

As for BIOS flashing, go to your motherboards manufaturers website, download the latest BIOS for your motherboard and follow the instructions on how to install it.

you shouldnt need to flash ther bios but its never a bad idea to do it aslong as you do it correctly. The E4500 i had was a terrible overclocker so if you can clock yours quite high (assuming you do OC) then i wud maybe stick with what u got.

Remember to flash before you put the CPU in or you'll be doing a lot of swapping!

He shouldnt need to flash his drivers as motherboards have a list of supported CPU's and the related settings in the BIOS, so if your mobo was produced after august 2006 (core2duo gen 1 release) you wont need to as it already should be a profile for all those chips

newer cpu's like the 45nm C2D and C2Q require updates on older LGA775 boards

Thanks for the replies!

So my options are to just OC the current cpu,
or just flash it and apply some artic silver 5 stuff.
or just put it in without flashin.

I have another question.

Um...Actually the e4500 is coming from my dads computer.

So hell have to use the 2160 one.

Do I have to like flash back for my dad's pc or something like

degrading his bios?

No, newer BIOS's are always backwards compatible.

i know its a LOOONG way of doing thing but personally what i would do is overclock you current CPU (check alex's guide for some help/guidance) then run some benchmarks (3dmark and whatnot) and play some games see how it does then. Then do the same thing for yur dads CPU and see which one is the best. If you're not overclocking at all then just stick to the E45 that will be faster.

Whenever you remove the heatsink its good practice to clean and change the heatpaste on a CPU as reusing stuff can result in high temps.

You shouldnt have to flash the bios to switch your CPUs although again, its good practice to keep it up to date. You may need to clear the CMOS which can be done by either finding the jumpers on your motherboard and switching them to the clear position or removing the battery and all power sources from the motherboard for 5-10 mins then putting them back in.

Well, I won't do any overclockings so i guess the e4500 is better. ^^

So if I just upgrade the bios for both computers there shouldn't be any problems, right?
