    Broken Steam

Anyone know how to fix this bad boy? The updater gets to 26%, then goes back to 0 and shows me this error

Google didn't seem to return much in the way of answers, but maybe i'm just doing it wrong?

    Cheers

    Maybe firewall is blocking it?

Uninstall and then check if it left any files are left behind, like some settings files or so. Delete those manually and then try a reinstall.

I'm not too sure it will work, but I know steam leaves a lot of files behind if you try to delete local content for a game. Maybe it's the same thing with the actual steam program

Try deleting the clientregistry.blob and restart steam.

              Cheers for the input guys.
I managed to trade the old error message for a new one! I opened the steamtmp.exe manually and the firewall notice popped up and told the firewall it was a trusted app, so now i have a new one. The ridiculous thing is that it still didn't work with my firewall disabled as well. I have checked that windows firewall is disabled too.

Found this on the new message, gonna install commodo and see if that helps. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...9828-SFLZ-9289

Edit: Cheers for the input all. I un-installed commodo firewall and ran ccleaner to scrub all the gash out and it works now.

hmmm...odd. i have comodo and didn't have any trouble installing. did you put the blasted av/af in "install mode" prior to? i've found that comodo, to a large degree, stays resident even after you terminate.

glad ya' got it fixed up, anyhow.

What Internet Security Suite/Antivirus/Firewall are you using?

If all else fails reinstall your protection software.

Did you install all of the crapware with Comodo. I install just the firewall, no extra active defence rubbish.

That just monitors your registry and breaks things.

I definitely didn't install the extra gash this time, i cant imagine i installed it the 1st time either but i can't really remember. Maybe that's the answer.

The only thing even kind of relevant I could on Steam's support site was this.

Although, you're probably a lot better off asking on Valve's forums. I don't normally hang out in the Help & Tips section, but a lot of people do, and are probably more familiar with this issue than I am.
