what's going on with my tv? :(

So I've got a 37" Acer LCD HDTV just like this. It's like 2 and a half years old. Just a couple months ago it started getting this weird blotch on the upper right side. It started spreading and the blotch looked like it was dripping, or leaking, as it gradually moved down the screen. Now it's gotten more noticeable because it's taking up about half the screen. If you were to see it in real life, it would look like one half of the screen is very slightly darker than the other. The darker side is the spreading blotch TV cancer

Anyway, what's weird is that it's only there when the TV is displaying a signal. So it's there on regular TV (going through a Shaw HD-through-component digital cable box), when hooked up via DVI to my computer, and when it's hooked up via component to my xbox. It was even there when it was hooked up to our other Shaw HD (HDMI) digital cable box. But it's not there if I just change the video mode to where it doesn't receive a signal (a blue screen). The picture is perfect, with no blotch.

So what's going on? If it was a problem with the actual LCD, then wouldn't the thing be there no matter what video mode?

I can't get a picture right now, but I will tomorrow. In the mean time, I created this in paint to give you a better idea


The part on the right is, like I said, very slightly darker and it's not really that noticeable if you're just taking quick glimpses at the TV. However, if you're watching it for a while, it can get really annoying. It's the outline, like in the picture, that is the most noticeable.

Tried taking a photo, but it's too faint for the camera to pick up, so that drawing is going to have to do.. sorry
