whats up TGN!!!

So now that i got my computer done, thanks to TGN for the help as well.
my wife sorta wants one..
and her vision of online gaming is solitaire!!! LOL!!
so lets say were not getting her a hd4870 LOL

in fact Ive got it pretty much handled..

I'm going to probably get her this system.


-cpu:Intel core 2 quad q66 <-because it can be future proof LOL!
-board:asus p5k deluxe <-because i trust the reliability in it not bad!
-ram:kingston hyperxddr2 1066 ram <- because it cheep 50 bucks!
-case:its going in her old dell pc case LOL!

so now it leaves me with 2 things left to do..
so number 1 on my list for now is the power supply..

since its not a GAME pc something small and HARDY is in need.
my guess was these for the price also..

i hate to say it but i been a antec true power fan since day one but tell me what you think in this case :) and hey if you gota suggustion let me know ..

im putting a small 9600gt in there for her graphics boost for photoshop or whatever.

aside from that nothing else real special will be done..
she has keyboard and all that stuff already..
just the internals is what we were looking at.

oh and the last thing was the hdd..but im sure the F1 will do nice..

ALEX WHAT IS THE GOOD VID FOR THE Q66 to achieve 4ghz????

You'll be hard pushed to get a Q6600 to 4Ghz...Latest ones been doing bad..but even good ones would need watercooling to get 4+Ghz...

i was reading a lot about it..i know mine cant do it now..im close but not no where near useable stable LOL ...some vid will work thoe from what i read..unless it lies ...lol..

I wouldnt bother with a quad, i cant really see her needing anything more than a dual for whatever she does E7200/E7200 would be enough i reckon. Not sure what you want to future proof for i doubt solitare will use more than 1 core :p
As for the GPU i dont know if i would even bother with the 9600GT, a 9500GT.... hell even a nvidia motherboard with integrated 9400 would be enough!

well most of the parts like the 9600gt i already own ..so i can go for something cheeper etc etc..it cost me nothing because its in my junk parts pile ill never use..thanks for the info..but i am considering the quad for the simple fact of ya never know..and well its worth the price...future proof....

for $180~ the Q6600 is still a good buy. I wouldn't try to push it to extreme overclocks, sounds like she doesn't need that. Instead just give a healthy bump to 3.0 or 3.2.

For 4ghz you probably need 1.25v VID or less. No way it will happen without watercooling.

Also the motherboard you said is an older model, still fine but its P35 wheras now there is P43 and P45 boards. There isnt a huge amount of difference but i believe they have been made on a smaller manufacturing process so are more efficient and can run higher FSBs for overclocking.

I would link you but im on mobile internet on a train, currently int he middle of nowhere so my connection is pants. From memory the model number for the asus boards are P5Q (p45) P5QL (p43)

Bear in mind that thermaltake PSU you seem to be hinting at has quite low output on the 12v rail (single 18a) and may struggle with a quadcore and a 9600GT. Have a read though the comments on the page you linked us :)

i was reading about the rail..i had read that..it seems to have issue for gamers with intense overclocking and usage, i was under the impression that psu would work under the simple circumstances of one hdd one rom drive and board connections? plua one 4 pin connector for the 9600gt ..no?

dell has used/uses(?) proprietary mobo standoffs/mounting configs. make sure it will accept a standard atx/matx/whatever you buy.
