Windows Media Player 11 seems to actively reduce the volume produced when playing songs. For example say there's a 4 second segment of audio, and the 3rd second contains a loud snare drum, the player will reduce that part of the 4 seconds then return the volume to normal.
This is rather annoying. Especially since looking all over wmp's options I can't seem to find how to disable it.
It's not my sound card, OS audio settings or speakers. Since I can load up Audacity, Winamp or use any other program that uses audio and no volume leveling is present. And it's not my speakers as I've put them in different output ports (i have 2 headphone sockets and 1 line-out to choose from :P) plus I've used headphones and they're the same.
-Crossfading and Auto Volume Leveling are set to off
-WMP's Graphic Equalizer is on, but turning it off makes no difference either
-Quiet Mode is off
-SRS WOW Effects are off
Some of the song's played are ripped from one of my cd's. These tracks, when ripped where not auto-levelled as I have that unticked in the options too. It also affects audio in videos played with WMP11.
Am I missing something?
