Don't bother going after gimmicks and that kind of crap. Get a good pair of sennheiser's instead. I would only get a headset from a headphone manufacturer that I know is good (sennheiser, etc) rather than ones specifically marketed towards gamers without a long and good track record. That way you'll get headphones that won't break and the sound quality is actually good.

To be fair I've been extremely happy with my Copperhead that I picked up a few years back hence why I decided to stay a loyal-ish customer. Well **** that off.Originally posted by jake___ View PostDon't bother going after gimmicks and that kind of crap. Get a good pair of sennheiser's instead. Id listen to jake... sennheiser and beyerdynamic ftw.
There is a reason these long time headphone manufacturers havent made 5.1 headphones and that is the differences they make with modern positional sound are minimal and in some very populated games even negative

"Gamer Headsets" made by companies that haven't been around a while are gimmicks. Some might turnout alright, but you have no way of being certain.Originally posted by [BFE]B1scu1TId listen to jake... sennheiser and beyerdynamic ftw.

If you buy a real headset from a company that's been around the block several times, is dependable, and always gets good reviews, you're chances are much higher.

Re: Really Nice 5.1 headphones
i had zalman's 5.1 offering until they finally (cats knocked off desk and the soldering separated) broke paired with an audigy 2zs and later extrememusic. they were light weight, and did a VERY good job at peripheral sound. they fib a little, though, as you don't get the .1 (separate bass channel). Lasted me almost three years of almost daily use. Best "gimmick" i've ever owned, lol.
i've owned the razors now for several months, and i'm less thrilled. sound reproduction is good and directionality works as advertised. bass is much better...

...but they are heavy and less comfy, although they aren't awful by any stretch. the mic performance is very good, but id rather it be a flexible boom-type than the rigid kind provided. not sure if i agree about the build quality--its a metal frame with some decent components in the ears, but again, it's only been a few months and i need stuff to last years before i consider reliable.
if i was going to do it again, i'd go with the zalman's, not just for gaming, but also for watching movies in surround on long trips. the fold up very nicely, also.
