we'll the thing is I have had the same 550w psu through 5 builds and it would probably be more than fine with next build too, only reason for replacement would be the fact im selling the thing as a whole.
the thing about technology is whilst there is a constant drive for more power with regards to speed there is also a constant drive for smaller manufacturing proccess and lower power consumption.
unless you plan to move to SLI/Crossfire or stick like 8 hdds in some mental raid array, I think you will find that not a lot will change and 500-550 will be plenty for a standard mid range system for a while.

saying that I'll probs end up getting a 600-700w psu with the plans of sli and never doing it :/

well my hope is that i'll never have to upgrade my power supply again...well never is asking too much probably, but maybe until after 3 or 4 years or so.

got a glass wall case? OCZ gameXstream are pretty cool, they come with a blue LED. Matched my antec 900 case so I went ahead with the 700w one for my 8800gtx. Been nearly a year and runs quiet still. You can get it in 600 or 700 watts I know for sure.

You are prob American but @ canadacomputers.com they got it on sale with mail in rebate for 35$ making it only $110 CDN for a 700watt psu with a good name. Dunno but newegg though.

Almost forgot to mention that it says it is SLI capable but its a load of bs, or at least so when you have a 8800gtx to feed. If you going SLI on a power hungry card that needs two rails then quad is a must.

Also you may wat to consider this, buyin an overkill in PSU will make a nice print on the electric bill so if you can go weaker than do it. I know my rents hate it when I run my desktop rig @ home just because of that lol.

Not necissarily... If there is enough amps on dual rail units then it will be fine. Its nice to the extra stablilty and headroom on heavy systems but i would never go so far as to say its a must. I think its more for a piece of mind than anything else.
I would rather have a good quality solid dual rail PSU than a questionable quad...

Where did you get that BS? Having a dual, single, or quad rail does not change the total amount of energy put out by a PSU. A single rail PSU can safely run dual cards, especially if it is a strong single rail compared to multiple weak rails. Which would you rather have? Just wondering.

An overkill PSU will not raise your power bill, it only take what it needs, and the only difference will be due to the different efficiency curves.

Holy crap it did, go for it, it's a great deal! But I just got the 750w for $70, if I had known the 650w would've gone down the next day I would've gotten it.

well it came in today, plugged it in and booted up. But apparently I missed one of my hard drives =/
