importing parts

A friend of mine is living in America and im going to visit him, i was thinking i might as well grab some components while im out there but if something goes wrong i still need to be able to return them.

Basically my question is, if i buy some memory or a GPU with manufacturers gaurantee will it still be valid in the UK?

if so, is there any other parts which you can think of which would offer me the same gaurantee?

So far im thinking EVGA GTX260 + OCZ 1600 DDR3 ram (for my i7 set up of course)

Dont tell me to get a 4870 because i use my PC for things other than gaming and CUDA + ACS4 = winner

Well, i will tell you don't get a EVGA GTX260, get a new 260 (with the 216 SP's). Remember, rumour has it that catalyst 8.12 will have full GPGPU functions )

Secondly, it depends on the warranty. Some companies only accept parts purchased in that country, some companies accept worldwide warranties. You have to look at the products small print.

Well I myself arn't too sure but I was thinking if you really trust you're friend and there comes a moment where you're vid card blows up, maybe you could mail it to him (also register it under his address/name) and send him a notification of what the shizzle is.. Of course thatll cost money to ship the card back n forth and there is always a risk of it getting damaged too I guess but then again who is to say you will need the warranty?

Isn't manufacture warrantys regardless of duration global neways if they are shipped out all around the world?

Remember, shipping electrical items back and forth might net you a tasty £30 import tax (certainly arriving in the UK from outside the EU).

Idunno if it helps but I know ASUS laptops are global, and ASUS is in mobo/video cards too.

Yah thats the one i wud get anyway :)

As for the ATI GPGPU features its a matter of time really as il be sorting it all out between now and mid jan. Otherwise i would jump right on board.

I guess its something il have to do some reading on really i was just hoping someone would have had some similar experience.
