OK, I cam to boot up my PC this morning and everything went completely crap. First time around, I got past GRUB and was on the Vista loading bar screen, which was followed by a brief BSOD which just mentioned the registry being screwed, carried out a memory dump then reset my PC. I tried a few more times and got the same result, and got out my recovery DVD.
As I was setting the DVD drive to the primary boot device in the BIOS, it told me that something had gone wrong with the BIOS, and did I want to reset to default values? I said yes, but when it attempted to load the new settings, it got stuck at checking NVRAM (Which usually implies that the HDD isn't working, but this can be discounted by the fact that I managed to load GRUB).
I then ran the repair utility off the Vista DVD, and this did a system restore. My PC is now working, but for the life of me I can't see what the problem was. The only change to my PC which occurred last night (When it was stable as ever) was when Avast updated its virus database. The facy that the BIOS reset itself might suggest a failed OC, but the FSB was at 400MHz, which it is supposed to support, and the system had been prime95 stable for about 6hours previously.
I really need to track down the problem, so that I can return to my OCed settings confident that they won't leave my PC in a complete mess again.
