Getting a 9800GT

Is this a good card? I've been thinking about this one for a while. Or should I get a 4830/50?

The dual slot one doesn't have a lifetime warranty, so I think this one is the best value.

The cheapest one on Newegg is $30 more. Am I even going to notice the difference at 1280x1024?

Well my other rig can max out every game I've tried on it, (don't know about Crysis though, I'll install the demo someday and try), and I'm happy with it. tbh I really don't care about AA since before I got my 3650 I was still playing everything at 1024x768, so if I can max it out and run at my monitor's rez I'll be fine with it.

At any rate, the 4830 should beat it pretty convincingly if you can't afford the 4850. :)

So which 4830 is the best from Newegg? How come none of them come with non-reference coolers too, I wonder.

And I've read some reviews, and the 4830 and 9800GT seem to be pretty neck and neck in average performance. The biggest differences were in Crysis and DMC4.

Id go ATI but no way you would notice any difference at such a low res, all cards should be consistently over 60fps (excpept maybe a game like FC2/Crysis)

I think I'll get a 9800GT since it's EVGA and it looks like the heatsink covers the RAM as well as the GPU...

I agree with the above. The 4850 is way better than the 9800 and that's coming from an Nvidia fan!

still recommend a 48xx. the 55nm technology, now that they've gone from awful (2900xt, 90nm) to just above mediocre (3870/50), should net you a better card overall, according to teh internets reviews.

^edit, you've already probably seen this. dunno now--they appear to run neck-and-neck, but the 4830 has overclocking potential. still, if you can get a 9800gt for $30-40 less than a 4830, that might be the way to go. :)
