Best computer/laptop?
My current computer is kind of crap, so I was wondering what are some computers that will work well for playing high tech games and working on schoolwork or making movies, etc.? If you have any suggestions please list them below along with a link to various sites with their information. I don't want to spend more than 2000$ dollars, but I am willing to create my own custom computer from discrete parts. SO, post on!

I want a computer that will be able to play Crysis, Left 4 Dead, etc. on High settings, but won't break the bank. It should have a fairly large hard drive. 750 GB is a little overkill, but for the price it is a great deal (I think). It should have ram of at least 2 GB or so and the operating system will probably be Windows Vista (which version of Vista is best?). The video portion can be struck out, that is just an accessory. Then, the boring stuff, school work (Microsoft Office Ultimate) and other good programs? I don't know all that much about computers, so this is a pretty basic premise of what I want. I don't want my computer to become outdated in a couple of weeks, so it should be able to hold its own for a couple of years at the minimum. This is my planned college computer, so it will probably be used for at least 4+ years before I even consider getting a new computer and starting the process over again. I'm so generic and bland sometimes. :dead:Comment

I will need all of those, but if pressed I can use some of my dad's stuff (he has extra mouses, some older monitors, but that is about it, so if possible new stuff would be great). What is open office? Also, there is a deal where Microsoft Office Ultimate is only like 70$, so I could just get that. I don't think a laptop can play crysis like you want it too for under 2k but I know the one I am using is very awesome and pretty cheap too.
I know I didn't show you an american site version but this is a very good model to compare other choices too. It has a tonne of sweet features at you're finger tips and I always get commented on this beast by friends and friends of friends. In terms of gaming performances, all I can say is that it runs bf2 and cod4 to the max with no over heating issues at all. I tried crysis maxed out for a laugh and needless to say it somewhat struggles but if you are willing to compromise on lower resolution than native and what not, it may beok? Not too sure since I hate crysis and can't be bothered to install it.
But a tip in looking @ laptop vid cards, typically the more vid ram the better. Also, the GT > GS if you go nvidia. I highly doubt you will find any real better deals on laptops over Asus. Only other competitors to asus are like Dell and Alienware and they charge serious $$ for the extra gaming touch so its you're call.

I would wait a while until the Intel i7 comes out, and maybe a bit longer, before building a new PC. I, actually, plan on building one this summer.
Also, don't get a gaming laptop. The don't shouldn't mix, imho. Laptops are good for a lot of things, but most of those are wasted upon bulky laptops designed for gaming.Comment
