    iPhone or Blackberry?

Hmm, I'm not sure what to go for... not even sure if I'll even get one...

I don't need the music stuff since I have my iPod (which I should really upgrade, it's a 5.5g 60gb iPod, full up with music, and I really need like 80gb space)

Blackberry seems to be the one I should go for... since I'll mainly use it to check emails, check internet, create and edit word files (for reports), create and edit text files (for programming)... where as on the iPhone, it's a little harder to type on the touch screen, takes a bit longer... and I don't know if has any apps for word/programmer notepads...

Although what's that Google phone? I might be interested in that... the one that uses Android or something? Where you can customize, create your own applications etc.

Basically I'd be using the new phone on the Tube, since I travel 2 hours from Home to Uni (east to west london) and I'll be able to do my coursework on the Blackberry during that time... plus it's easier to carry around a phone then a laptop... I like the GPS features, that stuff is kinda kool, since I plan on going around the world after Uni, so that stuff would help me find shops and what not...

Anyway... any of you guys have iPhones or Blackberrys? and if anyone knows about the Google Phone?

    Re: iPhone or Blackberry?

The android op sys is based on open source linux (which i assume is why you can make your own apps etc) so it should work on most smartphones using ARM processors, iv heard mixed things about it but i will definately be trying it on my TYTN II soon so i willl let you know how that it. Im not too sure about the G1 (google phone) but it also made by HTC so it will be well made, most of their other phones are better looking though.
From the sounds of things it seems the best option for you would be the blackberry, it will be much better to synch up with windows than the iphone and i have heard that you have to pay extra for a lot of daft little features on the iphone such as the ability to FWD messages :/

I always play on my mates iphone at school. I want one because i need a new ipod & phone, 2 birds 1 stone.
You should most probably go with the Blackberry, iphone is good for mobile gaming, music and some awesome applications.

That was my theory when I picked up the 3G on the day it comes out. But just remember that it still lacks some basic functions that we take for granted on mobiles these days:
            • Bluetooth (Headsets work, but you can't send people photos etc. with it)
            • No sending of MMS (but you can e-mail people any photo) and you can receive them by going to 02 website.
            • No video camera
            • 16GB really isn't a big enough size (for me at least) when your talking about lots of photos, music and videos
            • Camera is fairly poor qualit0y, defiantly not going to replace a half decent digi camera.

If you can live without that and can afford the ridiculously high price then go for it, it is a great phone.

I think you can get those features installed but you have to pay for them...

                • The gimmick of sending/playing music through your phone has gone with me, i don't use bluetooth that much anymore
                  I've never sent an MMS
                  Better than my 2GB Nano
                  Better than my Nokia 6230

The cost isnt that ridiculous compared to other 3G/Wifi mobiles.

                I really want one

Hmm, Ok it's deffinetly between a Blackberry and a G1 (or if any other Google phones come out by the time I actually decide on getting a new phone)

I'll wait till Xmas and then I should be able to find more G1's around to demo...

                      Re: iPhone or Blackberry?

i would definitely read up lots more on the G1 and go to a shop and see what you think of it in the flesh as i have read about some very dissatisfied people with them.

What about a windows or symbian based smartphone? The HTC diamond pro and the Sony-Ericsson X1 have querty keypads (similar to the G1 & my TYTN II :)) which can really come in handy and i dont think i will ever go back to a regular keypad. The Nokia N95 (and the 96 however it hink it has some software bugs atm) have decent e-mail and web functionality but u lose the touchscreen and querty.

There is a lot of phones out there with similar functionality its just the ones with the biggest backing behind them (eg G1 = google backing) get advertised a lot better. Make sure to really search and read up on the options before making a decision.

I'd wait.. I can guarentee apple will release a next gen any time now.. Smaller, better camera, longer lasting and/or replaceable battery and probably a few more downfall fixes. Even though it isn't a great phone logically it's still VERY appealing! but fight the temptation and buy something you wont get sick of after the first two weeks.
