I am considering getting one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102024 to upgrade from the onboard sound that I am using now. I have heard a lot about compatibility problems between X-fis and Nforce boards, but I don't really know the full extent of the issue. So should I be alright with the Xfi or just settle for the Asus Xonar?
X-fi on Nforce 4?

Personally, i don't think there are widespread issues. You could find a thread on the Internet claiming about incompatibilities between any piece of hardware.
Personally, i'd buy this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102006 -

Re: X-fi on Nforce 4?
I wouldnt buy creative mainly because of the shocking way they treat their customers. Poor customer services, poor cheap quality components, and extremely slow driver releases. I say this having owned a creative XFI and an Emu 1212 both being extremely problematic. I bought an auzentech Xplosion having read some really good reviews and being told they where fantastic cards and i have never regretted the decision, its an excelent card built with seriously quality componants. The only thing that bugs me about it is the GUI interface for it looks a bit cheap and there are no linux drivers.
M-Audio do some consumer line soundcards that derive from their line of pro recording cards. Maybe check them out?Comment
