Budget Build For a Friend

Ok my mate wants a PC to play WoW and war online..

So here is the list I have so far.. It has to be under £500 because he's looking at a laptop for that but I'm trying to convince him to let me build him a pc..

So here's the list:

Intel Pentium Dual-Core, E5200 = £55.70

512MB Palit HD4850 = £102.80

320 GB Hitachi = £32.07

2GB (2x1GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 = £26.60

19" Hanns-G HW191DP Silver/Black Widescreen LCD = £97.94

Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L = £46.75

Samsung TS-H653B/DEBH 20x DVD±R = £13.97

500W Silverstone ST50F Silent PSU 120mm = £49.73

Antec Three Hundred Case = £41.01

total = £466.57

He probably wont be overclocking so I haven't included a CPU cooler...

I'll also be able to get him an OS...So...

If you guys know anywhere cheaper than scan.co.uk let me know..I haven't had time to look at ebuyer.com yet..But if you see any deals or anything let me know..Also tell me what you would change(if anything)

E5200 is a great budget chip. 4850 is also a great bang for the buck card. (Those 2 are possibly the best value CPU+GPU combo right now imo, except for the E8400, which is a bit higher on the budget.)

I'd replace the Gigabyte EP31 with the Gigabyte G31: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=848059 It seems to be a better overclocker than the EP31, and it's cheaper anyways. But it only has 2 RAM slots, so if you buy 2x1gb now, you can't upgrade without replacing them.

I'm a big fan of Corsair's PSUs. I think a VX450 would be enough (and cheaper), but a VX550 would be more future-proof.

I would tend t agree with Wizrd although i wouldnt bother with 2GB then looking for an upgrade down the line, i would just get 4GB (2 x 2GB) now. Im not too sure about Hitachi hard drives, i may be wrong and it might be fine but i usually stick with samsung or western digital just to be safe. Might cost a touch more but remember it has to store all the valuble data so its imperitive to get the best quality possible.

As for CPU cooler, whilst the stock coolers are usually pretty quiet, they can sometimes have a bit of a whinning noise. I bought one of these and was pleasently suprised with how good the performance was, its cooling the celeron 1200 in my server without even installing the fan!

Baring in mind all these things are just suggestions, the specs you have suggested are perfectly fine.
