Serious 4870 Business?

Hello, I was wondering if I could run this, which I was thinking of getting. (I saw mega recommend it in another thread)

I will be upgrading mobo/processor come christmas, as I know I won't atm be able to run the card at its full potentual.

So basically I want to know if firstly my PC can run the card, and secondly if there are any cheaper variations of the 4870 avaliable.

yes you can tun it, but i've never heard of that brand, try saphire or asus or visiontek...

you are definately going to be under some serious limitations from ur CPU and chipset. If you are upgrading at christmas then id just wait out and do the whole lot in one go :)

Yeah, a single core 3500+ will be a severe limitation for the 4870. Even my X2 4400 would be a bottleneck.

it would run, but a) you need to make sure your psu has two pcie-connectors to power the card or an available molex withing reach to use w/the adaptor

b) as has been mentioned, you might get more utility out of a cpu/mem upgrade and a cheaper hd4850 if you do a lot of online gaming. running vent/xfire/aim/email app/web browser in the background is going to be almost seamless with mid-level dual-core cpu and 4 gigs. you would notice a difference in visual quality with the 4870 upgrade--especially at higher rez--but your cpu is going to limit your gains significantly.

as for brand...i go for cheapest first and longest warranty second.

edit--noticed your x-fi is broken. mine too, at least i think so. oem out of an old HP, though, so it may just be **** drivers :*(

2xpcie connectors is ideal.
