    Direct X Error

Heya, I need some help. Every time when I try to enter a modded server, the game downloads maps and mods, then it tries to reboot the game and open with the mod, but then I just get a direct-X error and the game just quits.
This doesn't happen to me when I play on a regular, non-modded server, but this bugs me alot since this way I'm not able to play on BFE servers.
    Help would be greatly appreciated:salute:

Could be a graphic driver error... I used to get that alot... try updating your graphics card drivers to see if that fixes it...

            Re: Direct X Error

            Thanks.
Well, I reabooted my pc last night, didn't start X-fire, and then it loaded correctly.
Other times, when I don't have X-fire on, and I play on a regular server, and then try to switch to a modded server this happens too.
On other forums people say it has everything to do with X-fire, but that's not what I'm experiencing. I hope someone can help me, cause I have to go through some extra trouble just to play on a modded server, and I don't want that.

            My PC:
            Pentium II @3.4 gHz
            2 gigs ram
            Nvidia 7600GT

              Re: Direct X Error

Pentium 2 @ 3.4  Considering they only went up to about 400 - 500 MHz (i think, that was a lllong time ago) thats a serious overclock

Im guessing its really a Pentium 4.

Are you on Vista or XP?

XFire does have some issues with COD4, i remember i couldnt change the resolution without turning Xfire off.

Have you definitely got the latest version of DX9 on?

To find out and test DX is running ok go to start then run and type dxdiag. Here is a page with some info on it http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro....mspx?mfr=true

If thats not it does this happen in any other games or just COD4?

If it only happens on COD4 then try uninstalling the game, going to program files/activision and delete the modern warfare folder completely then reinstalling the game.

Lol, I'm an overclocker for life :P
                Yeah, it's pentium 4.

I allready reinstalled COD4 a few times, that doesn't seem to resolve the problem.
I don't have the problem with COD:UO, so it's only a COD4 issue (I don't have more games then that, besides solitaire )

I won't be able to diag Direct x atm, I'm at school, but I will as soon as I get home, and then update this post.

                  Re: Direct X Error

When you did reinstall did you ensure EVERYTHING was deleted from the Activision folder as if its a dodgy mod you have dowloaded causing the error then it wont be removed when you reinstall the game. I doubt it is this very much, its much more likely to be the X-Fire thing.

Also you didnt say which operating system you are on :)?

                    Re: Direct X Error

X-fire and COD4 combined give me problems also. It's a 'known issue' that I hoped would have been sorted out with a patch by now. There have been threads about it since the game came out. Most of them were on the official COD4 site CharlieOscarDelta.com which was simply shut down (incredibly) so the threads are lost. Some suggestions might be on the IW forums though, some people migrated there after the closure.

For me X-Fire often either refuses to connect at all with COD4 on or will connect, but only when COD4 loads another map. I get the X-fire disconnected pop up when the map loads and the 'connected' pop up when a map changes.

Sometimes it works fine though, with no reasoning behind it. Maybe the mod does play a part, too many variables for me to know for sure, but it never worked properly for me even before I started playing on mods.

Connecting to X-fire without COD4 up runs fine and without incident.

                    I'm on a new build (E8500 @ 4.2 / GTX 260 / 750i FTW as of this week) but it did it with my old PC (X6800 @ 3.5 / 8800GTX / 680i) too. Both systems run XP Pro.
