    NVIDIA HybridPower

    It seems that I'm the only one in this forum who is using Phenom on an HTPC board. Anyway, I get this 9800GTX+ and can't wait to try it. Initially I have some problem with SATA cables, as the location of SATA socket is causing some problem with the cards. After some persuasion and rewiring, the card finally goes in. I have 178.13 driver installed, and DSub cable connects to the board. The BIOS detects the card immediately, and boot using mGPU with the card turned off.

    After getting into Vista, Vista installs the driver for 9800GTX+ automatically, and runs Crysis without a hiss. Nice!

    I hope that NVIDIA keeps making chipsets with HybridPower function, and AMD should adopt similar approach as well. It not only saves energy, but also reduce noise while idling. Heat management is also easier with this function. Now imagine that you are running overclocked quads with two GTX280 in SLI, HybridPower certainly helps a lot!

      I think you don't know what you're referring to. I did my board purchase solely based on HybridPower. AMD's integrated graphics is currently the best in terms of performance, but they only offer HybridPower-like function with Puma platform on laptops, and it works only with Mobile Radeon 3400. The desktop boards and cards use PowerPlay function, which dynamically tuned down GPU frequency. PowerPlay works great with 3870, which I had one before I sold it. However, PowerPlay doesn't work well in 48x0 because the amount of SP is simply too many. There is no way to power down it for the moment.
