    DVD drive not reading disk

This has just started recently, I put a disk in and my computer would make noise as if it were loading a disk, but it doesn't.

    Currently tried:

    - Reinstalling DVD Drive
    - Checking cables into back (of DVD Drive)

I have found a sort of work around for this by 'breathing' onto the disk, but I do not think that this is safe :shakehead:

Get a new drive and see if it works.

Nope all disks, will probably just buy a new drive even though warranty hasn't run out, takes too long for them to sort it out.

Sounds as if the laser may have gone or been damaged if it spins up but doesn't read.

You could try flashing the drive and if that doesn't work, buy a new one, they cost bugger all.

^ yep that happened to me with a Samsung drive that went awry on me. Get a new one is the best solution. DVD Drives are cheaper than RAM :p

you can get disks with little bristles on them that clean the lasers in the drives, might be worth a try i have had some success with these before. Otherwise its no big deal to buy a new one as people have said above.

Thing is, those disks cost 25% of a new disk drive. You can get a new drive here for £15 ($30) and i suspect USA is cheaper.

But once you got those disks you can use them in anything, DVD drives, CD players, Laptop drives... everything! Quite handy to have around i find.
