Building a rig for a mate, need some assisstance.

Hello all you techies out there!

My friend had his laptop, Ipod, and PSP stolen from his dorm room last year, and has been given 800 quid as a insurance payment. He would like to buy a rig, preferably custom built, but built by the company i.e. Cyberpower.

I would have to say that his budget for a new rig would be around 500 to 600 GBP (English Pounds).

He needs it for gaming, and uni work. We so far got a 98GTX, E8400, 580 Hyper PSU, 4GB GSkill, (he has Vista already, hence 4GB), default DVD drive, a P31 board by MSI, some unknown case.

That config was done using Cyberpower configurator.

Custom built systems including Desktop Gaming PCs, Gaming Notebooks, and Workstations. Award winning gaming desktop and laptop with legendary performance.

Thats the link at default settings. can anyone here config a better rig, on this site or on other UK sites that offer to build the PC as well? Thanks very much in advance.

Don't use Cyberpower.... build it yourself and you'll get sooooo much bette value than a 9800 and P31 board.

If he pays me £820 i'd build him a custom one

Just because you have vista doesn't mean you can use 4gigs. He needs 64 bit vista.

^ oh yeah ;p. well what can you guys recommend aside Cyberpower? any DiYs?

I am thinking of a P35 board, an HD4870, or 9800GTX (he's pretty much on an Nvidia guy but i will give it a shot to convince him).

if he is an nvidia guy the GTX260 isnt a bad card now its gone down to as low as the 4870, but the 9800gtx isnt really in the same league tbh

id still buy the 4870 tho, being given a choice

Thnx for your reply Death Merchant :), he already purchased a PC on Cyberpower, with an E8400, and a 98GTX as the gfx, an MSI p35 board. He skimped out pretty much on the remaining parts, except the PSU, i managed to convince him to getting a better PSU.

He is pretty much an Nvidia fanboy, so i had absolutely no luck in convincing him to get an ATI.
