The official beta is out, including Messenger v9, Windows Live Movie Maker, Mail with Calendar synchronisation, Writer, Photo Gallery, Family Safety and the Outlook Connector.

EDIT: Hmmm, i like the new Live Messenger, but it needs to be more flexible. I want my online contacts to appear above my offline contacts list, but it has it the other way around and I can't figure how to change it

The idea with the favorites is great, so you got you special contacts with nice pictures.

WLM v9 looks quite good

Though I don't think Messenger Plus! Live works with it yet

The only thing I don't like is the DPs being on the left instead of right... but I'm just used to it that way.

wow this sucks.. I can't use any of my custom smiley things.. They have taken away the search button as well as the "send" button and the window is all back to front

Its still in beta, hopefully they will sort the smiley thing out.

Overall i prefer this beta version, it looks so much better.
I never liked the dark blue top part on the main window that didn't match anything else.
I also love how simple you can make it look.

All in all, its extremely fap-worthy.

*edit* who clicks the send button anyway?!

I never used the send button. And Contacts search and Live search is one field now.

Oh, you can drag an image into the top bar when your name and avy is. Other people will see that image during chat as well.

yeah being able to put an image there is cool.. But how do other people see it?
