New Laptop Hard Drive

So i need to buy a new hard drive for my laptop as it's bust. The current one is a SATA 5400RPM etc etc. i know it needs to be the 2.5" but do i just need to make sure it fits those two requirements? There's 7200RPMs too would they not work properly or what?
any help will be appreciated.

pretty much you just need to know its 2.5" and sata. sometimes there can been some height requirements so just check the height spec on your drive. 7200rpm are way better performers than the 5400's so I would definitely get a 7200. If size and money aren't an issue I would check out a sexy new ssd drive.

holy **** i think i'll just stick with the 7200 i have a desktop as my main pc use anyway so i couldn't justify spending that much.

I tried a 7200 rpm in my friends laptop and it completely killed the battery life and the laptop got incredibly hot.

What brand hard drive did you buy and for what kind of laptop? it shouldnt have made a massively noticable difference tbh.

yeh i know a few people that use externals, but they're not exactly handy when in my situation you don't have a integral HD and wanna take ya laptop out:p

It was a new Asus EEE 10" laptop. and I believe the hard drive was a western digital. If I were you I would buy the 7200 rpm hard drive from a place that's easy to return it to just in case.

Hmmm my WD do get slightly hotter than any samsung or seagate ones i have used in the past but the reason this made such a difference is because its used to using the SSDs which emit very little heat and use very little power. Check if the drives are set to go into standby when idling. Switching from a 5400 to a 7200rpm drive shouldnt have the same impact.

It wasn't an SSD, it was a 5400 rpm to a 7200 rpm.
