Corsair VX450

Yeah, I'm starting to regret getting it a bit now, I've looked around on Google and it seems 4870s need at least 500w, and 4850s need 450w. I probably should have gotten the VX550....

Here's my question, how long do you think it would last? Could I run an E8400+4850/8800GT off of it? I can only hope that newer graphics cards will become more power efficient.

I have a 1000watt PSU just so I can run two card in the future If I was planing to run only one card I think a 650watt PSU is more then enough.

I think you will just be able to get an 4870 on 450 watts as long as you dont have lots of extra peripherals in you system (Fans, USB devices, LED's etc) i think youll be ok in reviews barebone systems (no fans or case) run at about 300-350 watts under load but thats usually with a quad core of some sort which will use more power than your e8400

Thanks for the charts.

I'll probably have a few fans and maybe 2 DVD/hard drives, I don't think those will add too much, but I'll probably take the safe way out and go with a 4850 (or whatever it's future equivalent will be) in the future. Those charts are with everything already booted up, I don't want to buy a 4870 and find out it can't boot with the rest of my system.

Use Kallum's link, as well as i used the New egg program for the PSU to calculate how many watts you will be using it aint accurate but gives you an idea. Sorry that i couldent be of much help.

It will boot on 450 watts for sure, you might just get errors when under load (gaming) like crashes and BSOD if it runs out of power

Ive seen a quad core and an 8800gt boot on 300 watts, didnt like gaming too much tho :dead:
