i have a store bought compaq pc, will i be able to flash the bios?

if i will be able, how can i do it?

i want to put my e6750 in my motherboard but it does not support 1333 fsb

The chances are the FSB on the motherboard will not go high enough to support it and if you mess up trying to flash the mobo then ul probs kill it completely (im assuming the bios chips are soldered in on compaq boards)

Bad idea. OEM chipsets usually suck. I think you could just swap out the motherboard with a new one if Compaq doesn't use some proprietary case/mobo.

But hes spending all his money on a new PSU and 4870!

So he has a e4400 atm and doesnt wont it to bottleneck the card..thats why he wants his e6750 to work with his mobo...

Im running an E4500 which is now @ stock, the bottleneck wont be huge tbh. Better of dealing with it until he can afford a new mobo and CPU than he is risking making his mobo duff or frying it. Saying this, if you do your research and find out that the motherboard can be safely flashed and will comfortably run at higher speeds then go for it.

But the P5K is an asus board yes? He is most likely using an OEM board in his Compaq which will use a standard Intel chipset and therefore will be unable to do higher FSBs than it was initially designed to do.

Look for the model #, go to the asus site and see if it's on there. If it is it will have a list of supported cpu's and what bios version you need to run them.

If that motherboard came with the Compaq machine, just go to hp.com, click the SOFTWARE AND DOWNLOAD link in the lower left corner. Put in your model and they will have all the drivers and firmware updates for it. It will tell you how to do it.

Most Compaq/HP systems create a floppy disk to boot to that does the flash. It shouldnt be a big deal.

Though the board may say ASUS, they usually design them for a specific manufacturer's needs. So I would use EXTREME caution going to the ASUS site for a BIOS update. In fact, as a pro, I would tell you DONT DO IT!

Could be that your motherboard is specifically manufactured by Asus for just that HP computer model...

I know that was the case with my old 7500 LE... it's not an official nvidia card but it's manufactured by Acer for use in some of their models (with permission from nvidia)
