The prices suggested in the article for the launch parts are $266 for 2.66GHz, $532 for 2.93GHz and $999 for 3.2GHz. It'll be interesting to see if they overclock as well as the current Core 2 CPUs.

When Core 2 Duo first ever hit us, the cheapest high end part was the E6600. I hope whatever the 2.6ghz Nehalem is, it has the full amount of cache memory.

When Core 2 Duo first ever hit us, the cheapest high end part was the E6600. I hope whatever the 2.6ghz Nehalem is, it has the full amount of cache memory.

Yeah, I couldn't really afford the expensive E6600 when I was in the market for a new PC. I ended up waiting until the E6420's came out for the larger cache.

This article just came out on Anandtech is worth reading through in detail. It explains why Nehalem doesn't perform better in gaming, and what Intel did and tried to improve in performance against AMD on HPC and server market.

The Integrated Power Gate technology will shut off idle cores, reducing their voltage to zero, rather than just lowering the power provided to them. Not having as many cores on using power and producing heat, will allow other cores to use more power, increasing the performance of those cores, while still not exceeding the maximum TDP of the processor.

I still don't get what the QPI is supposed to do. What does it mean for gamers and overclockers, besides making us all get new motherboards?

Meh, I'll probably just get a E5200 or something and hopefully it'll survive for 2 years when Sandy Bridge is out.

QPI is Intel version of HyperTransport. Due to the removal of memory controller from northbridge, which traditionally handles direct connect to CPUs and other high speed devices such as PCI-e x16 or onboard GPU. Now the memory controller is gone, the CPU needs to take care of business on its own. So there you go, Hype.. ugh, Quick Path Interconnect will handle data transport between CPU, northbridge and memory. Northbridge still takes care of everything else, but since it no longer has memory controller and CPU cache buffer (now called L3 cache inside CPU), it can be designed to include other functions.
